A Big Sleepy Drainage Called Wilson Creek, NC

Once upon a time, there was a sleepy southeasterly facing drainage called Wilson Creek. Pouring down 3000+v.ft from Grandfather Mountain, the water has carved intense gorges through the otherwise arid high mountain terrain. It is an area of extremes, dank valleys, arid ridges and steep slopes all around.

Throughout the region, a vast network of intermediate+ trails interconnects the deep backcountry. If you are lucky, you’ll find manicured jumps and ladders. (If you are lucky, you won’t get lost.)

Unfamiliar with this area, but having heard about its bountiful riding, a few friends hooked up with a local and spent the weekend attempting to get to know the Wilson Creek area. We cut our teeth on trails like Cranberry Ridge, Greentown Plunge and Beehive.

The photos tell the story, except how the common thunderstorm soaked us at the end of our weekend of camping and hucking.
